Why Get B12 Shots?
There are many reasons that people decide to get B12 shots. B12 deficiency is more common than you would like to think. Additionally, many people decide to supplement with B12 thanks to the energy boost that it gives them.
Weight loss doctors also very often incorporate B12 shots into their weight loss plans, because it is believed that taking a B12 shot can give your metabolism a boost. Let’s take a look at each of these three reasons to supplement with B12.
While true B12 deficiency is not all that common, it does exist. At risk groups include the elderly and those who have had weight loss surgery. More common than a B12 deficiency is having a lower than ideal level of B12 in your body. Neurological symptoms begin to manifest themselves when you reach the “low normal” range.
In a study at Tufts University, over 65% of the participants are considered to be at risk for having neurological issues due to low levels of B12. Unless they are vegetarians, most of these people probably get enough B12 in their diets. The challenge is that B12 is absorbed through a complex process and many people have difficulty with this process. As a result, many people with issues with b12 absorption decide to supplement with b12 shots.
Many people supplement with b12 merely for the energy boost that they believe that it gives them. While I once thought that this was a myth, I can say that I personally feel much better when I get a weekly b12 shot. Yes, it is inconvenient. But the difference in my energy levels is significant. The time I spend getting b12 shots is well worth it!
Another growing trend is for weight loss doctors to include weekly b12 shots in their programs. This is popular for two reasons. First, it is believed that the energy boost from b12 also results in a boost in your metabolism. Additionally, because people generally report that they feel better when taking b12, it can make them more likely to exercise and more likely to stick with a diet.
