Green Tea Can Help With Weight Loss
Green tea is one of the biggest health foods of the 21st century. In the early days no-one could foresee the hype that would surround this ancient Chinese herb, traditionally used for calming down and overall health.
It contains a polyphenol called EGCG which can’t be found in any other teas because of the way that they are manufactured. Green tea is dried, as other teas like black and white tea are all fermented – this destroys the epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG.
EGCG has a lot of other health benefits as well, and it has been shown to actually reduce the risk of stomach cancer, though the biggest benefits that todays people can get from it, are in it’s possible fat loss boosting effects.
The increases in metabolism
All the nutrients that we eat are broken down in to simpler forms in our gastric track and further in our liver. Ones metabolic rate is the amount of calories that the body burns for energy – with a low metabolic rate one can’t eat too much before gaining fat mass, and when one has a high metabolic rate, they can eat high amounts of food without gaining fat. Usually people with high metabolic rates are naturally lean and don’t have problems in maintaining their ideal weight.
Improvements in insulin sensitivity
Today the largest health problem that is continuously spreading throughout the world is type II diabetes, which is basically just a high increase in insulin resistance – the insulin that is produced by the pancreas is no longer effective in the tissues, causing our blood glucose to stay elevated long after meals. When blood glucose is high, more of the energy that it contains is stored in adipose tissue – causing one to gain fat.
The biggest reason for green tea weight loss to be so notable, is the fact that the antioxidant EGCG actually improves the insulin sensitivity in our muscle tissue – this basically forces our body to store less of the energy that we eat as fat, and shuttle more of it to be used by the active mechanisms in our body. This will not only induce weight loss, but it will improve
the energy levels of the person using this tea – many people report higher energy levels when they use green tea – much higher than when they are drinking a lot of coffee.
Keep in mind that this is a herbal supplement, and even though the results that researchers have found are promising, they can be quite individual, and most of us will not get so notable results. The basics of a working weight loss diet are always proper nutrition and a good exercise plan no matter what supplements you choose to use.
