Green Tea as a Weight Loss Aid

Green tea for weight loss.  Can it really be that simple?  Will drinking tea make you skinny?  Well, no, it is not that simple, but drinking green tea or taking green tea supplements can help.

Green tea has fat burning compounds, called catechins, which work to increase metabolism all day long.  Besides boosting your metabolism to help you burn fat, these catechins have antiseptic properties.  They are also thought to play a beneficial role in reducing the risk of various diseases, including Alzheimer’s, certain cancers, and heart disease.  In addition, they improve cardiovascular and oral health.

Now, drinking green tea is not the fastest way to lose weight, but is a dieting tip that can really be incorporated in your daily lifestyle.  One cup of green tea with breakfast is enough to spike the metabolism for hours, and if you add cinnamon to it, which is another fat burner, you will really raise that metabolism.  Of course, if you detest the taste of green tea, adding a green tea supplement to your diet can have the same effects on your metabolism.

How many cups of green tea do you really need to drink each day in order to see real results? The experts say four.  However, just one cup a day is beneficial, so do not forgo one cup just because you know you will never be able to fit four in.  Every little bit helps, especially when we are discussing how to lose body fat!

There are many new ‘diet’ drinks out there that use green tea as their base. Be careful when purchasing any type of diet drink though. Check the ingredients.  If the drink is calorie laden, you will not be doing yourself any favors by drinking it.  Also, look for those supposed ‘fat burners’ that are sometimes added to diet drinks which can actually speed up the heart rate to an unhealthy speed.  If there is a warning on the can or bottle, pass it by.  Lipton makes a zero calorie diet green tea with lemon that is delicious.  Buy a case, throw it in the refrigerator and grab one in place of water.  They taste great and provide so many healthy benefits.   And if you don’t like hot green tea, this is a great alternative.
